From Promotional Products to Powering Creative Solutions for Automotive Marketing
Sarah’s journey to the automotive industry wasn’t a traditional one. With a background in creative marketing and over seven years of experience in promotional products, she made the strategic shift to digital marketing in 2021. On the recommendation of a strong professional network, she joined Dealer Teamwork as a digital marketing specialist and SEO analyst.
Her unique vantage point and fresh perspective from transitioning into automotive quickly propelled her current Team Lead position. This is a pivotal role in the new Dynamic Creative Solutions product and managed services Dealer Teamwork launched in January at the 2025 NADA Show.
In a recent interview, Sarah offers valuable insights into the industry’s evolving landscape and the increasingly important part that women in leadership positions play.
A Leap of Faith and a Desire for Growth
While a career in automotive wasn’t initially a target industry, her experience with a previous agency sparked a desire for a more supportive and growth-oriented environment. “When I learned about Dealer Teamwork, I was sold on the company, the mission, and the people,” Sarah said. The company culture resonated strongly with her, convincing her to take the leap into the automotive industry.
Sarah’s commitment to learning and growth is evident. She recalls a humorous anecdote from her early days at DT: “As funny as it is, when I started, I asked Eric (Miltsch, Dealer Teamwork Co-Founder and VP of Search) to create a list of automotive industry terms so I could learn ‘dealer speak’ before I was tossed into a dealer call! Boy, have I learned a lot since then.” She quickly adapted by immersing herself in the world of dealerships.
The Indispensable Role of Women in Automotive
Sarah recognizes the significant impact women have on the automotive industry. “Teams cannot deny the powerful impact that women bring to automotive,” she asserts. “In a world of women buying, selling, and designing vehicles, ignoring what we bring to the table is illogical, and, at this point, detrimental.”
Seeking role models in the automotive industry, Sarah points to women with whom she has direct interaction at the dealership level as prime examples of female leadership in action. “These clients know their stuff inside and out, control the room, and are the definition of leaders. Each of them understands how to command a conversation, but light-heartedly, and also firmly when needed. Such an inspiration!”
Demonstrating the potential of women in automotive by combining real-world knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to motivate confidence, Sarah’s story from promotional products to digital marketing is a testament to the power of embracing new challenges and the importance of finding a company that aligns with your values.
