Google My Business (GMB) is a critical tool for dealerships that helps inform and attract potential automotive shoppers to your website. One of the most important GMB optimizations involves adding UTM tracking tags to your GMB listing.
When you add UTM tags to your GMB listing, your dealership can track GMB traffic back to your website in Google Analytics. This gives you more accurate campaign reporting — allowing you to manage your paid spend better and save more money.
Step 1: Properly create UTM tags
To properly create UTM tags, use these examples:

- Campaign = gmb-website

Note: Keep in mind that these UTM campaign tag examples are recommendations only. You can label your campaign however you choose, but it’s important to keep your campaign tags consistent.
Step 2: Insert UTM tags into Google’s Campaign URL Builder tool
With the free Google Campaign URL Builder tool, you can easily create UTM tags and put them into your GMB listing. With this tool, all you have to do is:
- Enter the correct tags from the UTM tag examples provided above
- Insert the link generated from the Campaign URL Builder tool into the appropriate spot on your GMB listing

Step 3: Insert links into your Google My Business listing
- First, go to your profile and click “Info” on the left-hand tab.
- Next, scroll down and copy and paste the correct UTM links into the Website, Appointment and Menu links seen below.
- Last, your UTM links will track shoppers who click the below 3 links on your GMB listing.
