Dealer Teamwork is proud to showcase the incredible women who are driving innovation and shaping the future of the automotive industry. In this interview, we sat down with a seasoned professional to share her authentic journey and insights in the second feature of our Empowered Women of Dealer Teamwork series: Staying True and Driving Change – A Conversation with Lani Almen.
From Nursing to Automotive: A Serendipitous Path
Lani’s career in the automotive industry began unexpectedly. Inspired by a friend’s recommendation, she transitioned from nursing to car sales in 2011 out of a desire to earn her worth. My friend said, “if you want to make more money based on how hard you work, you should sell cars!” Despite the challenges of a volatile market, her determination and hard work propelled her forward.
Joining Dealer Teamwork: A Culture of Empowerment
Lani was drawn to Dealer Teamwork by its commitment to fostering a supportive environment, especially for strong women. She found a community of talented individuals who shared her passion for the industry and her belief in the importance of diversity and inclusion.
She adds, “What matters at Dealer Teamwork is that you are smart, you work hard, you treat others with respect, and you do your best for the clients; keeping in mind that we win or lose as a team. It isn’t an individual sport.”
Lani’s expertise extends to a crucial area of Dealer Teamwork’s success; its strategic premier partnership with FordDirect. She plays a vital role in ensuring that Ford and Lincoln dealership clients are able to maximize the benefits of the FordDirect AdVantage Digital Advertising Program. Lani works closely with FordDirect, fostering strong relationships and a deep understanding of their offerings, delivering exceptional results for clients in the program.
Navigating Challenges and Embracing Opportunities
As a woman in automotive, Lani has seen many changes. From balancing work and family life to the evolution of next generation people and technology across the industry, she has persevered with resilience and determination. She reflected, “It’s a lot different than ‘way back when’ but I see the most innovation and the most progressive practices in automotive where women lead!” When faced with a challenge, she emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and maintaining a positive attitude.
Empowering the Next Generation
Looking ahead, Lani is optimistic about the future of women in automotive leadership. She believes that women bring unique perspectives and strengths to the industry, and that their increasing presence in leadership roles will drive positive change.
Passionate about inspiring the next generation, she believes that family-friendly environments, competitive pay, and growth and leadership opportunities are essential for attracting and retaining female talent. Her personal advice? “Use your voice and stay kind. Nice people do NOT have to finish last.”
As the automotive industry continues to expand, the role of women has become increasingly important. Lani commented, “I believe if more women were in charge the world would be a better place. There is a greater nature for growth personally and professionally when women lead. It’s more structured and collaborative.”
By sharing their experiences, women like Lani are paving the way for an exciting future!
