You may have heard that Google is launching a little something called GA4 on July 1st. But that’s not the only thing the giant has been working on. You may have also noticed another little something called Perspectives, quiet update to your mobile search filter geared to personalize results.
Think of it as a kind of peer-to-peer learning. According to Google, the release of Perspectives follows their recent AI Search Generative Experience (SGE) as they “not only continuing to focus on providing quick insights, but also connecting you to the people and perspectives that will help you understand what’s best for you”.
LONG STORY SHORT
Google’s new mobile search feature call is called “perspectives filter”. This lets users see more personal content in their search results, like videos, blogs, and forum posts. The goal is to give users a more real-life feel to their searches. You’ll see more videos, pictures, and user-generated posts from people on different websites and social media. It remains to be seen many people will use this new feature as it’s hidden in the search options.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Google began rolling out the new Perspectives filter in mobile search results in mid-June. The idea is that searchers want to see answers from people who are sharing their own personal perspectives and these answers are provided in way that’s more friendly and consumable to the younger audience.
What does Perspectives look like? Here’s a screenshot of the search for “dealer teamwork” using the Perspectives search filter.
When you tap on the Perspectives filter, you will see more long and short-form videos, images, and written posts that people have shared on discussion boards, Q&A sites, and social media platforms.
Google will also display more details about the creators of this content, such as their name, profile photo, or information about the popularity of their content.
